Koko Black Salon, Claremont

Kick starting the weekend a little earlier we visited the Claremont Koko Black Salon. On a Friday morning, a normally hectic Claremont Quarter Shopping Centre was blissfully peaceful  with the exception of the retail staff preparing the stores for the morning rush. Koko Black had just opened its doors for the day and we were the first ones in, taking our seats on a lounge in the corner. The chocolate cafe always brings ...

Eat Drink Blog 2013 (EDB13)

Two weekends ago I was fortunate enough to be one of 80 Australian bloggers to attend the Eat Drink Blog 2013 conference held in Western Australia at City Farm in East Perth. The conference was a platform for Australia wide bloggers to connect with each other and also take away some insight from the carefully selected guest panellists. Throughout the event local West Australian food and drinks were provided by an ...

La Mousse Cafe & Patisserie

I treasure a cafe where one can sit down in peace with no real pressure to rush one's coffee, this would be one of the reasons I frequent La Mousse Cafe & Patisserie in the western suburbs of Mount Claremont. We took advantage of the short sunny period and occupied the outside table in the peaceful surroundings of the community centre. The glass cabinet houses a number of handmade macarons, slices ...

Weekend Cycle in Claremont + Cake Breakfast

This past Sunday morning despite the imminent threat of rain and wind we took a chance and hopped on the bicycles for a leisurely cycle intending to indulge in a cake breakfast at Choux Cafe. The Claremont area is an ideal spot for cycling with long wide roads and various bicycle paths which can be linked up. There are also cafes, farmer markets and the Claremont Quarter Shopping Centre to tempt ...

Choux Cafe

Choux Cafe is a cosy and unassuming cafe located on a leafy tree green neighbourhood street in Swanbourne. The French cafe is one of my favourite places in Perth to visit for cake, coffee and croissants. I particularly love that all of the goods are baked in the little kitchen behind the counter using quality ingredients. Croissants made from real butter and not artificial substitutes. Pastisserie cakes made from creme patisserie. Pies, tarts, sausage rolls ...

Breakfast at La Mousse

La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie is tucked away in the rather prestigious suburb of Mt Claremont, it is next door to the local library and civic centre. La Mousse have an impressive selection of macaroons and sweets and somehow 1 macaroon always turns into 5 when I stop past to grab a coffee, I just cannot resist! This morning our agenda was breakfast, we needed fuel to continue the task of painting the ...

La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie

The majority of patisserie cafes in Perth close early on a Sunday, so this raises the question of where to go for an afternoon sweet treat and coffee! Undertaking a quick search on the trusty Urbanspoon website, I found an immediate answer and all was not lost. Tucked away in the beautiful suburb of Mt Claremont is La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie. We initially drove right past the patisserie, looking for ...

Swiss Cakes from Francois in Leederville

Francois is a Swiss Patisserie located in Leederville, a few metres from the lively Oxford street.  The patisserie has been around since 1998 serving sweet patisserie cakes, coffee and sandwiches. They also offer catering for events. The passionfruit and chocolate mousse caught my eye. The rich chocolate mousse was encased in a light fluffy almond sponge and on top was a layer of passion fruit mousse with two small pieces of fruit.  In one mouthful ...

Cakes and Coffee at Choux Cafe

Sunday morning, its windy, dark and wet. Little did we know of a storm was due to hit the area later in the afternoon. For the moment though we head to a neighbourhood French patisserie known as Choux Cafe. We managed to secure a table inside and ordered our regular coffees and cakes at the counter. There was a new cake (photo above) in the glass cabinet of which I apologise, ...

Sweetness at Choux Cafe

I would imagine living so close to this little French patisserie one could smell the pastries and breads baking away in the rear kitchen every morning. Choux Cafe make all of their scrummy goods in the cafe. Each time I try to taste something different even if I may not be entirely convinced of the combinations, like the strawberry and basil macaron. I am always pleasantly surprised with the combination of such unusual flavours ...
