Coffee on Rottnest Island0 Comments
The Lane Cafe flung open it’s doors late last year in the Thomson Mall of the main settlement area on Rottnest Island. This small takeaway coffee house serves a killer coffee and the staff who are baristas by trade provide notably an excellent level of service for the island.
Our first morning on the island we cycled to the mall for our first coffee of the day. We were staying at Hotel Rottnest and found that apart from the in room tea and coffee facilities there was not really a morning breakfast option as the pub opens at 12 noon. The Lane Cafe which is a few metres away from the hotel was a perfect choice and the mall seemed to be a bustling place in the morning than the hotel.
Park up your bicycle and grab a coffee
New to the area is also the raised decking of added seating under the majestic aged tree. Customers of The Lane Cafe and Simmo’s Ice Cream (next door to the cafe) can enjoy their coffee or ice cream or even both in this little shady spot.
Lovely seating area
The Lane Cafe use the Voodoo Sax Roast coffee beans (perfect for Espresso coffee!) and one coffee is served with a double shot. A cappuccino costs $4.00 and is same price found in most places back in Perth.
News has spread fairly fast about this place and over the March long weekend it was particularly busy however we were never waiting too long for our coffees. For some reason when you are on Rottnest Island there is never a need to rush around as you would on St Georges Terrace, time slows down and you are well and truly in holiday mood. One night in Rottnest and we were on holidays. It is good to see that there is a dedicated coffee outlet on the island and we hope to visit next summer.
