The Dome Coffee Rottnest
Dome Coffee grew from humble beginnings in the 1990’s with its first store in Cottesloe, Western Australia. It filled a big coffee gap in the market back and over the years developed into a franchise chain with now over a hundred stores across Australia and some parts of Asia and the United Arab Emirates. All stores are individually owned and resemble the old ‘Kaffehaus’ cafes in Hungary, Prague and Austria.
Having checked out of Hotel Rottnest we chose to have some breakfast and coffee at The Dome. One of the things I like about The Dome Cafes is the extensive menu they offer, the variety of choices always seems to fill in the blanks for me when I am in an indecisive mood.
Dome Coffee on Rottnest Island is located in the Thomson Bay Area next to the Salt Store and it is open daily from 8:00am. Breakfast is served all day long.
The cafe has a lovely covered terrace area, perfect to watch people coming and going, as well as the activity happening on the small ferry landing. The seating options provide a bit of space to stretch out as well.
The tomato and thyme soup was a pleaser, it was big and served with plenty of dipping bread. After a big dinner the previous two nights at The Rottnest Lodge and Hotel Rottnest, tomato soup was perfectly simple for DD.
Dome have their own coffee brand. The coffees were served luke warm, they were okay but I do prefer a piping hot strong coffee.
The big breakfast wrap contained fried eggs, spinach and bacon. It left much to be desired, lacked flavour and was rather small.
Over the years as small espresso bars have popped up around Perth raising the bar in coffee and food quality, The Dome I think have fallen behind. I am not sure if it is the beans or the staff however I have been to a few Domes across Perth and the coffee has been fairly average. The Dome Coffee do want to hear feedback and I hope they are listening!
