From the picket fence, Asado Bar brings an air of casual coolness to Claremont’s Quentin Avenue. The modern restaurant features a number of different spaces from wicker chairs with sinking cushions to high bar seat tables. Light urban industrial and warm wooded tones. If you like a place with emphasis on interior design, this is one to take note of.
So, having enjoyed a good breakfast on the last visit, we couldn’t resist returning once more when we found ourselves in need of a place to eat at short notice on a Sunday after 11am. Good thing Asado’s breakfast menu runs to midday!
I was craving a light dish and went with smashed avocado and pea salsa on toast. A simple and unextreme breakfast option on paper, this dish really knocked my socks off, figuratively speaking. The unquestionably fresh ingredients and combination of coriander, parsley and chilli herbs were dazzling. And I never thought I would be referring to herbs as dazzling but here am I doing exactly that. The delightful buttery texture certainly extended a great deal more with the ‘smashed’ effect. I am a bit of an avocado butter head and spend a fair portion of the weekly grocery budget on avocados, so it’s fair to say I thoroughly enjoyed this dish! I went with the GF option and for noting, the toast in the photo is different to the lovely sourdough that’s normally served.
A pair of good looking eggs sunny side up served on toast, was just delicious and came with a small ramekin of relish. Adding a side of baked beans for an additional $5.00 turned out to be a great idea because the tomato based sauce of the baked beans was a stand out of strong homemade flavours.
The long blacks were great, giving us a strong cup of coffee to savour over breakfast.
We were really happy with our breakfast at Asado and it’s no wonder the Argentinian street food style bar have appeared in the top 500 Australia restaurants list to emerge from the Good Food Guide editors. It’s fantastic to see a couple of breakfast spots making that top 500. We will definitely return some time to try the much talked about Parilla BBQ. As we left Asado I was even feeling a little inspired to attempt another invigoration of the herb garden at home (third time lucky!). Great place!
