Sometimes the best place for a traditional dessert is away from the city and today it was on a residential street in Swanbourne in the middle of two small stores; a patisserie named Choux Cafe.
Choux Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch serving an array of exquisite French cakes, savoury pastries and breads including coffee and tea. All the foods are handmade every day at the Cafe and I definitely could taste the difference in the cakes we ordered. I have been to Choux over a dozen times now and word is definately out about this place, come early for the best selection of macarons as they go fairly quick. My favorite macaron is the lychee!
The menu of sweets is extensive and is a memory of my recent trip to Paris;
Almond & fruit tartelette
Tarte au citron
Trio de chocolat
Pain au chocolat
Assorted gift biscuits
When international cuisines come to Perth they are often adapted for Australians and what I LOVE about Choux is there is NO ADAPTION. The cakes were small and delicate and for sale according to their French name (as above). There were no large Australian vanilla slices with artificial custard and icing. Sit inside or in the rear area which reminds me of my nonna’s house, especially the big old mixer turned into a fountain!
