Coffee and Cake by the sea, City Beach
Located on the City Beach foreshore, Odyssea beach café is a scenic spot for an espresso. Monday mid-morning, the unexpected small queue isn’t an issue as there’s a two seat bar table on the alfresco decking area available, and with only the two of us we’re in luck today!
On the way to the table we notice a cake and pastry table, and take a quick photo in passing, it’s a good way to decide on which sweet treat we’ll pick.
Sitting in the alfresco area is magic – fresh air, summer warmth in autumn, glimpses of the beach scene below – it’s relaxing. So much so, the onset of a sudden itch to be sipping on a cocktail stirs for a moment and falls back away when the aromatic coffees arrive one by one, followed by the cakes one by one. The long black and espresso, are an outstanding cup of coffee. Odyssea use local coffee beans, Fiori. One of the first coffee beans I sentimentally remember on the local Perth market when I began drinking barista coffee some years back. Our 2nd visit for coffee and happy to say it’s consistent with the last.
The gluten free friand is topped with fig and berry, as well as flaked almonds. It’s a delectable balance of oven cooked fruit and springy soft cake. The Frangipane tart is a top heavy slice of caramelised peach. Perfect with the sugarless coffees.
All and all we like Odyssea beach café. Extreme eating may be all the rage in Perth right now, however sometimes it’s nice to indulge in good old fashioned coffee and cake.
Why not make a day of it, there’s a cycle path from City Beach all the way up to Trigg beach, the Bold Park hiking trails are a 5 minute drive from City Beach. Lake Claremont has a circular path and playground for the kids.
