Following a clean and prep routine for our next Airbnb guests we walked into the city to kill some time before their arrival. Perth’s west end contains a good variety of establishments nowadays, a little something for everyone. As night transcends Wolfe Lane and nightclubs such as Amplifier Bar and Capitol entertain the drinking night owls and during the day the small cafes nourish and energise the early morning people.
Country Road Cafe is concealed inside the confines of the popular fashion store Country Road on Murray Street. The interior of the original stone building is rather light and bright, high ceilings and beautiful fashion seem to go hand in hand in creating a welcoming space as we walk through towards the cafe and into a courtyard.
The pace inside is unhurried and an escape from the flurry of people pounding the paving along Murray and Hay Street, the tables in the courtyard are all occupied and it appears to be the spot to settle in with a laptop especially since the cafe offers a free WIFI for diners.
The breakfast menu has a number of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan choices. Meat lovers will still find bacon on the menu and dare I recommend opting for an extra serving of mushrooms instead? We ordered at the counter and took our seats inside.
The coffees were the first item to arrive at the table, thank goodness as I really needed one. Before midday the price of a cup of coffee is $3.00, this is considered cheap in the City of Perth.
Cappuccino ($3.00 – before noon)
Our first observation when the meals emerged from the kitchen was the portion of food on the plates, we exchanged satisfied glances. I am an eggs on toast type of person and with the extra side of lightly cooked mushrooms I will admit I did struggle to finish my dish. I really enjoyed the small portion of salad, something that I find is rarely added to a breakfast dish. The two pieces of flat bread was concealed under the mountain of scrambled eggs. For $14.00 I was happy with the quality, taste and serving of my very simple eggs on toast.
DK loved, yes loved and demolished his bacon and egg meal sandwich, the bacon sealing the deal for him.
Eggs on Toast ($10.50) with mushrooms ($3.50) and Bacon and Egg sandwich on Turkish bread ($12.00)
I am glad we stopped by The Country Road Cafe, it is a place we will happily recommend to our guests. The location in the CBD of Perth, Country Road Cafe is definitely value for money. We will have to return and try out the lunch menu next time.
