Duxton Hill is in the Tanjong Pagar district of Singapore, it is a lovely area to walk through with many of the maintained and restored terrace homes creating a charmful part of Singapore. Duxton Hill is refreshing compared to the likes of Marina Bay Sands, we definitely felt like we were in Singapore at Duxton Hill. Many office workers flock to the area during lunch time as the business district is nearby, this is the best time to go and soak in the atmosphere!
Having seen Flor Patisserie reviewed by one of our favourite foodie bloggers, Lady Iron Chef we decided to check it out while holidaying in Singapore.
Flor Patisserie is a Japanese patisserie run by the legendary and well seasoned Chef Yamashita. All cakes are made with fresh and natural ingredients and this means there is no baking powder, artificial rising, softening agents, stabilisers, or preservatives used in the baking process.
Our taxi driver dropped us off in front and I was instantly excited and not to mention the shop front looked quaint and cute.
The patisserie does have some seating inside but we decided to take the cakes back to the hotel room and eat them by the pool. Our first Japanese patisserie experience and honestly we were completely overwhelmed as to which cake to buy! There were sponge cakes, mousse tarts and custard slices all with unusual interesting names.
I went with the Mont Blanc which was a curved sponge cake that contained Chantilly cream and finished with french chestnut cream and whole sweetened Japanese chestnuts.
DD went with the Waguri Millefeuille which was layers of puff pastry and cream. It was finished with French chestnut cream and sweetened Japanese chestnuts.
When you choose to go to a place on the whim that you have seen it online through a fellow blogger, there are some doubtful feelings about what the experience is going to be like. Sometimes seeing the perfectly photographed food can increase ones expectations. I can tell you that we were most pleased and satisfied with our Japanese cakes and anyone visiting Singapore should consider stopping by this little Patisserie, it is the real deal – an authentic little gem far away from commercialised Singapore!
