Saturday morning we found ourselves at Gordon Street Garage for breakfast, open from 8am on both Saturday and Sunday the converted car garage cafe is a convenient option for early morning wanderers in the city.
Gordon Street is a coffee centric cafe and the beans are roasted in small batches inside the expansive premises. It is definitely a place to visit for a good cup of espresso and since its opening we have stopped by a few times now. Our long macchiatos filled with just the right amount of milk were brewed hot and strong. It was a lovely first cup for the day.

Breakfast for me was delivered in the form of a cake, banana bread with chocolate mascarpone. The banana bread’s texture I would likened to a cake, it was mildly firm and moist. I found it absolutely delicious and it’s not the first time I have ordered the dish. Spreading the chocolate mascarpone on the banana bread was my favourite part. As much as I love butter, the sweet chocolate and dessert cheese is a wonderful combination.
DK was torn between the Jamon, kipfler hash, blistered tomatoes, poached eggs or the honeyed leg ham Gruyère toastie. He decided on the latter one. As delicious as it was, we questioned the price of $18.00 for a toastie with ham, cheese (albeit it was Gruyère) and pickles as well as a handful of spinach leaves. We thought it was overpriced and unfortunately would not order it again.

We’ve always experienced pleasant service at Gordon Street Garage and love that we are asked for coffee orders upon taking our seats. Enjoying a good espresso with a sweet morsel in Perth CBD, Gordon Street Garage often springs to mind first.
