Chilling out at Aloft Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Transiting through the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur we spent two nights outside of the city at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. Aloft Hotel is located in a transportation and business hub area known as Kuala Lumpur Sentral. It’s 57km from the airport and under 10km to the city centre – ‘golden triangle’. The hotel is located across from the underground KL Sentral railway station and bus port.

There is certainly no shortage of holiday accommodation in Kuala Lumpur, the choices are endless and as I was searching for a place to stay, Aloft stood out for value and price. It’s a modern hotel with all the bells and whistles of most grandeur luxury hotels, but with more of a casual relaxed approach. The staff wear polo shirts and guests can help themselves to a snack or drink in the small lobby self service area. Being able to quickly make a coffee was just fantastic to have away from home. The decor is sleek, industrial and colourful.

One of the motivating reasons of booking the hotel was for the fact that we were able to board the airport train – KLIA Ekspres train,  to the hotel and avoid the quirky and sometimes unnerving taxi encounters I seem to find myself in. This time round I wanted more of a stable journey into the city.

If you have travelled with Malaysia Airlines you probably have seen the relaxed and glamorous tourist video that talks about the golden triangle. Then you walk out of the airport and hit the chaotic city of Kuala Lumpur! Good news, there are some great places outside of the touristy area and accessiable from Aloft.  In the way of shopping- Mid Valley Mega Mall, The Gardens Mall (has a great basement food court and supermarket with decent produce and is next door to Mid Valley Mall) 1Utama (HUGE) and The Curve.  In the way of food, Bangasar Village has a great night scene and some good pubs and bistros. KL traffic is not a joke, and in the evening especially around the shopping malls it can be insane at the wrong time. There is a train service from KL Sentral to Mid Vallley mall – 1 stop away. It’s okay in the way of safety but a place to watch your surroundings.
