Kate’s Place, Albany

Albany has a fair few places to enjoy a good espresso and we discovered Kate’s Place to be one of them. Located on York Street a couple of doors down from the backpackers and not too far from the tourist centre it is pretty easy to find.

We arrived around lunch time and the cafe was packed, we found a small table under the stair well which was fine by us as we wanted a warm and private place to check the emails and drink a cup of hot coffee. Kate’s Place offers free wireless internet to diners.

The small cafe is comfortable and homely, there is even an apartment upstairs (not a part of the cafe). In Paris we stayed above a cafe and that was a lot of fun, very convenient for this coffee lover. The smell of the coffee beans in the morning is always inviting.

The long macchiato was robust, the crema thick and it was warm to drink. The carrot cake slice was served with a dollop of cold cream. The carrot cake was moist and I go crazy for sour cream icing, just delicious. The service was friendly and our orders despite the hectic rush arrived at the table fairly quick. All in all a great little find on our Albany travels.
