La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie
The majority of patisserie cafes in Perth close early on a Sunday, so this raises the question of where to go for an afternoon sweet treat and coffee! Undertaking a quick search on the trusty Urbanspoon website, I found an immediate answer and all was not lost.
Tucked away in the beautiful suburb of Mt Claremont is La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie. We initially drove right past the patisserie, looking for a street front cafe however it is actually part of the Mt Claremont Community Centre which houses the local library. You do not have to walk through the centre to access the cafe, it sits at the front nearby to the children’s playground. La Mousse has a lovely covered alfresco area but today we sat outside in the sun surrounded by the beautiful native Australian gardens.
Long Mac ($4.20)
We ordered our usual coffees, a cappuccino and long mac. I was impressed by the presentation and quick service of the coffees, the complimentary mini macaroon was a happy surprise. The coffees this afternoon were perfect – cream, temperature and strength all in harmony. There was no need for sugar and Dk even ordered a second one.
Next to the counter was an entire shelf full of macaroons and they are homemade on the premises. Macaroons are rather difficult to make at home so it is always something I will buy with my coffee, fully appreciating the effort that had gone into their creation. Our carefully selected choices were the salted caramel, lime and apricot, nutella, passionfruit and peanut butter. I am a lover of anything salted caramel these days and this one was delicious, soft and gooey on the inside. The passionfruit simply oozed flavour, yum!
Nutella, Lime and Apricot and Salted Caramel Macarons
La Mousse Cafe and Patisserie is open every day for breakfast and lunch. It is a great neighborhood cafe that offers some peace and plenty of space to enjoy your coffee.
This public space is ideal for kids for families having a fenced playground and basketball court across from the cafe. ‘A coffee in the park’ provides detailed info about the site. Parking right in front is also very convenient and it is free.
